Day Four Recap - Next Stop: Denver!

Day four started and ended with a long....long...long... drive across Iowa and Nebraska. There isn't all that much to write about considering there wasn't much to see either. There were a lot of cars and tractor trailers that ended up in ditches on the side of the road- which was pretty scary to see.

We tried to avoid it for a while, but we had no choice but to gas up at the Kum & Go (or, E squared as Brian, a native Iowan, refers to it).

The cats pretty much slept the whole time- except for a stretch of time where they snuggled and Ender gave Val a little bath to comfort her. They were very cute and so good during the drive- until the end when they started getting restless and Ender insisted on driving!

On our way through Nebraska/Omaha, we did get to see some "tumble weed"- roving balls of branches that would bounce across the highway.

We also got to see how bored cops get on the back roads of Colorado where there is nothing to do and the speed limit is 75. A police officer pulled us over for going about 7 miles of the speed limit-- he didn't give us a ticket (thank goodness) but told us we needed to slow down. Ugh!

Colorado, at least, was beautiful and we were very excited to find civilization again. Oh, and we should mention that we define civilization now as places where we can find a Starbucks!

Luckily, we ended up in Denver just before we went crazy in the car. Anna was kind enough to meet us in the hotel with some yummy salads and questionable pita bread. :o) It was great to catch up with Fil's sister and then we promptly passed out from a long 13 hour driving day.
